Some advice for moving

There are several moving firms. You have to inquire about their abilities and exporting skills for the destination of Reunion Island . Some formalities are complex and only an international mover can carry out this service.

Also, select a mover who is to a large group and member of the Union House . This precaution can be very useful in case of lawsuits.

First and foremost

The mover has to be in a position to do a free technical inspection to assess the cubic content and to offer you the best mode of dispatching.
You will receive a detailed quotation either by mail or fax which must include all the required information.
The quotation must be read attentively to check the information and the various formalities.

Documents to be produced for personal belongings:
• A notice of transfer for the civil servants, certifying that they need to move because of work.
• A certificate of transfer for the employees of the private sector
• An amendment certificate of residence (delivered by the town council).

For Motor Vehicle:
• original (car) registration document
• certificate of a recent non pledge (less than one month)
• authorization from the organization’s credit department in the event of leasing

Caution!
The quotation must be signed and returned in finalizing a moving date.
Do not accept to give a deposit before the house moving, this practice is distrustful.

Day of moving

You have to be present or represented.
If the movers are late, do not hesitate to call at the office, so as to know where they are. The movers know the file and must undertake the required services. After the packaging, you must accompany the foreman and cross check the number of parcels on the list.
It is recommended to look around the house, to verify that nothing has been left out, the movers will only come back for a consideration…

Various services

 1/ Customized container
The container is weighed in front of you at your place. The container goes directly to Port to be charged on the first ship, once the customs formalities are done by the mover (with the list of objects which you have provided.

2/ Dispatch in bulk
The parcels will be loaded in a container once the mover has assembled enough customers to fill it. You can wait for long.
On a price level, bulking is more attractive than a customize container.

3/The Motor Vehicle
Transport possibility through customized containers, bulk or via Ro Ro (without containers in a boat). It is more risky but the price is much more attractive.

The dispatching

The mover can offer various options according to your wishes:

- Make the parcels available to you at their premises (you clear the parcels through customs yourself),
- Basic home delivery (without unpacking),
- Full delivery (unpacking, furniture reassembly, set up, removal of debris).

Caution!
If you have chosen a customized container, the mover must unseal the container in front of you. Verify carefully that the lead number is identical to the initial one.

Customs formalities

Although Reunion Island is a French department, all import-export of the island is subject to customs formalities. For a house moving, the personal belongings are not subject to duty. For moving from home to home, the customs formalities are carried out by the mover with the paper which you have first given him (see the framed at the top).

Caution! Do respect the required documents in order to avoid lateness and fines.

Conclusion

For the economy’s sake, some think that the system «D» is more convenient.
But the unknown, the unanticipated, haste, generate most of the time costs exceeding largely the price of a mover: hotel rates, tourist furniture, rental car, quick trip, trying to find an accommodation…
