What to bring?

For all those who are still unaware of it: on Reunion Island, the seasons are reversed as compared with those of Europe. You'll need to pack accordingly.

Winter (as from May to October)

Cool and dry season, think of taking a cardigan! On the high lands (in mountains) the temperature may drop, especially in the evening and at night! Do not forget to bring along your pullover, polar and a jacket if you plan to camp out or sleep on heights. Gloves, caps and scarves, however will not be necessary.

Summer (as from November to April)

Whereas it is winter in Europe, here, summer shows up. It is a dry and hot season. It should be known that as from 15 November, the cyclonic seasons start. Do not panic, the information and precautions to be taken are quite finalized. The climatic conditions change rapidly. It rains, the weather is nice, at all events, it is hot! Required: light clothing. Swimming suit, sunscreen cream, hats (we find very beautiful Madagascan hats on the markets).

Hiking maps

You will find all the information on the gorgeous hiking places of the island in “Série bleue” or “Top 25” maps.

A créole lexicon may be very useful. It will give you an opportunity to immerse yourself within the culture of Reunion, to understand some Créole sayings which are very pictorial and to enable you to interact with the Créoles.

Anti-mosquitoes cream for the hot and damp period is mostly recommended. . Reunion Island offers you a variety of sensational activities which require hiking shoes, raincoat, diving mask and snorkel.

. Bring your camera and video camera to be able to immortalize all your adventures and sceneries. Do not hesitate to gift yourself a disposable underwater camera or a waterproof box beam for your digital camera. This will enable you to have souvenirs of your friends within unusual places: canyon, waterfalls, surf, diving.

. No specific vaccination is required.

. In case of major health problems, the island has three big hospitals : Saint Denis, Saint Paul, and Saint Pierre with European Standard.

. For those who have phobias, no need to worry. There are no poisonous snake, bear, lions and deadly spiders. Only a few harmless insects can distract your visit: spiders, cockroaches.
