Mountain biking is experiencing a spectacular boom in Réunion Island.
Today, there are 1400 Km of marked out trails dedicated to mountain biking.
Volcano, rivers, forests, sandy trails…these paths offer a unique biking experience with breathtaking views of Réunion Island’s landscapes. Mountain biking is an enjoyable way to discover the island.
There are 7 mountain biking stations on the island: Maïdo, Entre-Deux, Cilaos, Hautes-Plaines (2), Saint-Philippe and Sainte-Rose. You can discover the island in a different way and explore areas which are inaccessible by car. The rental of a mountain bike for half a day costs 12€ and the price varies from 15€ to 23€ for a whole day. If you would like a guide to accompany you, the rates vary from 45€ to 80€.
Regardless of your experience or age, it is strongly recommended that you be accompanied by a guide in order to improve your level and to be able to explore the mountain, while respecting it. The following organisations have a Brevet d’Etat (certificate) for mountain biking: Montagne VTT, “Guides de Haute Montagne” (High Mountain Guides) and “Accompagnateurs en Montagne” (Mountain Guides).
The Quad-VTT is easier to ride than a normal bicycle. It is just as fun as quad biking and makes far less noise. The concept in a few words: four wheels assembled on a mountain bike frame with a saddle, pedals and 27 gears.
