Hiking

Hiking lovers come from all over the world in order to discover Reunion Island. Its reputation in terms of hiking is firmly established. Nature speaks by itself.

On a relatively small area, thanks to 120 microclimates, one can find an amazing variety of landscapes, from deserts to green oasis and from dense rain forests to arid mountains. And of course the famous Piton de la Fournaise volcano and the lunar landscape of Plaine des Sables.

For your own security, hiking trails are well maintained by the Office National des Forêts (ONF) *. More than 1000 km of trails have been perfectly marked out and are accessible both to beginners and advanced hikers.

IMPORTANT POINTS : Do not take hiking lightly. Although it can pe practised all year long, you need to take precautions. Keep yourself informed about the local weather conditions. As a matter of fact, the weather can turn very quickly. Besides, choose to hike in group rather than on your own. As far as equipment is concerned, you will need good shoes, bottles of water and blankets for the “Hauts” region.
