Introduction : “La Plage de Grand Bois” is probably the least well-known beach of the island. This beach, situated off the beaten track is far from the crowds, and where you can only enjoy a calm leisurely atmosphere.
Although it is a white sandy beach, it is not the most beautiful one of the island. However, the serene areas of the beach are ideal for sunbathing.
Access : Grand Bois is found in the commune of Saint-Pierre. Take the direction of Saint-Joseph. You’ll go through Terre-Sainte on the way to Grand Bois. You only need to follow the sign of “Le Kala” restaurant, to reach Grand Bois. To exit the beach, continue to drive and just before “Le Kala” restaurant, turn left. The main road is found at the end of a road in poor condition. Turn left to return to Saint-Pierre and turn right to drive towards Saint-Joseph.
Parking : Since it is far from the hustle and bustle of town life, you can find a parking space easily.
Beach : there is a long stretch of white sand bordered by green plants with large leaves, commonly known as “Patates à Durant,” in some places.
Although the abundance of rocks makes swimming difficult, you can cool off with a quick dip in the sea.
No lifeguards.
If you are looking for a shady spot, you can always relax at one of the summerhouses, located close to the beach.
Eating places : a variety of sandwiches and drinks are available at the snack bars. You can also pop in at “Le Kala” restaurant, situated at the end of the beach. It offers a pleasant terrace from which you can enjoy delicious food.
Miscellaneous : On your way to “Le Kala” restaurant, you'll find a popular spot for fishing.
