Under the aegis of the Regional Council in Réunion Island, the APPG (Association des Plaisanciers de la Pointe des Galets), is organising the tenth Marlin France Cup in Réunion Island up to 22nd March.
Fourteen boats along with fourteen metropolitan and Réunionese fishermen are listed for the Marlin France Cup. The crews will be at sea for four days of competition at 20 miles away from the Coast of Réunion Island. According to the president of the APPG, Jacques Grandchamp, "the period is ideal to catch marlin." There are found there. "For the past few weeks, we are hearing about incredible fishing stories, which gives us, hope for a great show."
Strict rules will be enforced aboard to validate the catch and the records. The fishermen (two per boat) will have 6 fishing rods that can resist to 23kg (50lbs), 37kg (80lbs) and 60kg (130 lbs). The score is marked according to the thickness of the wire, the catch and its weight. The big game fishing is a sportive and dragnet one which allows the use of dead or alive lure and bait. The tracking does not wait any longer. The fishermen are already hard at work since 06 00am in the morning, to reach Port at around 04 30pm to weigh their catch. It is indeed a real attraction, especially when the catch is impressive.

Last year the winner was Thierry Bourdel aboard the Pistoulet. This year again, the best Réunionese fishermen will be present, starting with Eric Irlinger, champion in each category of Réunion Island 2007. In addition to the France Champion title, the winner will also be awarded a trophy created by the creative artist, Pierre Gauger. Several categories will also be awarded by bronze trophies, signed Sophie Vautrelle.
