A new tourist site From grey to yellow to orange-coloured and to black lava...Lava and even more lava. Along 1,6 km, the Route des laves which criss-cross the flow of April 2007 represents a tourist attraction that absolutely needs to be visited. Testimonials.
"Last April, we were unable to go near the flow. Now, we are walking over it. It was absolutely necessary to drop by." Yet, Marie from Saint-Leu did not wish to come during the first days of opening of the route des laves at the beginning of November. "I knew that many people would come to see the new road. Besides, I waited for my sister Genny to come back from the mainland France to accompany her. It's a new tourist attraction." Equipped with a video camera and a camera, both sisters capture the moment. "It's incredibly hot. I was unable to stand with my small shoes at the cavity," explained Genny, coming from a Paris region.
Walking in the middle of the flow
It's the same aim for Marie-André and her family from Sainte-Clothilde: visit this new tourist site. "The volcano belongs to the Réunionese, she explained. But, we voluntarily share it with others. It's unbeliveable what God can do!" The astonishment for Thierry and his girlfriend, who are on holidays for one week in Réunion Island, can similarly be felt: "we saw pictures of the flow on television. The phenomenon really seemed to be impressive but we wanted to see it with our own initiative, underlined this Parisian. And the outcome is magnificent."
Just next to Jérémy, his sister, native of Saint-Philippe, are delighted about the opening of the road. "We'll be able to visit our relatives more often. It was not easy to go round via the route des Plaines. We saw the flow in April. We were in the very front. At this moment, we were unable to imagine that one day we'll find ourselves in the middle of this flow."
