Two months ago, a young and dynamic team took over the Créole restaurant, “Chez Payet” in Saint-Pierre. This restaurant is well known among tourists and inhabitants thanks to tourist guides and most of all its reputation. Both couples, one in the kitchen, the other one in the dining room, have a lot to do to take up the challenge: Welcome to “Le Bertel.”

Original and typical dishes appreciated by everyone and a constant search for new flavours, Karine, also known as kafrin and her companion, from Brittany, (a region in France) keep on trying new recipes behind the stoves. “We cook according to the market, trying to favour local products as much as possible. At the moment, it is a bit hard with the after-cyclone conditions but we can manage. We try out many recipes such as “la crème brulée au curcuma” which is delicious”, exclaimed the cook. Green banana skin curry, fritters, « gratins de bananes », each ingredient is available in several flavours. All of the four partners have a diploma from hotel management school, one from Brittany and the others from Réunion Island. For lunch, there are two different à la carte menus, one is the set menu and the other one changes according to what’s on the market, with fresh fish every day. The 14€ menu consists of starters, main course and dessert and the 10€ one consists of a main course and a drink.
