Ideally located on the sea front of Saint-Pierre, the Rétro has nothing to prove, it is the essential restaurant of the southern capital.  Since the past two decades, we are always in a hurry to drop there.  A success story which is not ready to cease...

The paradox of the Rétro lies in its infrastructure.  A flashy front, almost a Hollywoodian style with its colourful neon lighting and there was nothing to suggest about the visual and culinary trip which is awaiting us inside, where everything is calm and sensual.  A hushed atmosphere, red velvet and subdued lighting, the Rétro is a haven of peace.  We pop in stealthily, especially in the evening, when the candles light up the tables and bunch of flowers.  At lunch, the restaurant is worthy of a Parisian pub.               

The Rétro, an institution

The Rétro has a great reputation.  25 years of existence without any wrinkle.  It's Fred Barret who runs it for the past two years.  Coming from the Petite Ile, Fred has rubbed shoulders with the greatest chefs and spent two months learning the haute gastronomy with Bernard Loiseau in Saulieu,Burgundy rendering one modest.  The apprentice of Centhor has made his way to run today, the most glamorous restaurant of the island with a velvet hand.
