12th January: A few activities for this weekend

Concert

concert metalThere is something for everyone this weekend!

From the jazz Manouche at the casino of Saint-Gilles with the Adlibitum band held on Friday evening to the very fresh French variety with “Les Jeunes Mariés” band which will perform this Saturday evening at 211 in Saint-Leu or Sunday evening at 07 30pm in Coco beach in L’Hermitage and to the hard metal, with the association of Kiss of Metal (K.O.M) which presents a concert of the “Death row, Wind of chaos and Warfield….” A concert will also be held at the Moda Bar in Saint-Denis, this Saturday evening, or if you prefer the soft Brazilian music, the Jazzy Bar in Saint-Denis proposes Arco Iris (a Brazilian jazz fusion).  The musicians are:  Elea (singer), Cyprien Munier (drummer), Nicolas Greiner (percussionist), Ludovic Jouanet (bass player), Gérald Loricourt (keyboard player) and Richard Layan (guitarist, trumpeter, fluegelhorn).  And should you fancy something different, the Coco Beach is organising its usual Saturday night party past the lagoon in L’Hermitage.     

Miel vert in Plaine des Cafres

The farming and local products fair, Miel Vert in Plaine des Cafres is held from 4th to 13th January.   This family and convivial event promises you to spend a pleasant time with full of activities!  It’s the last weekend of the farming and local products fair.

Enjoying local products at a fair : 

carnaval Miel VertMiel Vert is also an opportunity to discover and enjoy the local products of Réunion Island.
Everyday, you are invited for a free sampling of fruits, vegetables, honey and meat…at the stalls and “giant barbeques” days are being organised for the gourmets.  

• Taste and sales of milk and cheese by the CILAM
• Taste of the “Local Products of Réunion Island” at the stall of the “Fédération régionale des cooperatives agricoles (FRCA): chicken (Avicom/Crete d’or), eggs (Matines), pork and beef (Sica Viandes Pays), fish (SAM), fruits and vegetables (Vivéa), fruit juices (Seta.a) and honey (Coopémiel)       

The U.M.I.H is delighted to invite you to taste the local products everyday from 11 00am to 03 00pm.  (Union des Métiers et des Industries de l’hôtellerie) 

Tasting bar: rum-based cocktail, non-alcoholic cocktail and “rhums arrangés.”  With the contribution of the barmen school in Réunion Island FOI

A creative cuisine based on the “Origins of Réunion Island”: 

Taste of finger food include, American poached fish, island crabs, Ngundza sautéed fish (peanut paste, “brèdes” and cassava leaves), poached swordfish (smoked pork, garlic and white wine), brandade of marlin with sweet potatoes, “Lasagnes brèdes” and spicy fish curry, Chicken tossed in an Indian groundnut sauce (cashew, banana and corn), chicken breast shop suey (wok vegetables, finely minced chicken and saffron turkey), goat curry (sweet potato and onions), Creole Paella (rabbit, chicken, fish, smoked pork, “chevaquines,” bell pepper and local saffron), pork leg curry served with christophines, pickled ginger and chilies.

-Served with: Rice – dried pulses – christophine – sweet potato – “songe”- “brèdes”
-Accompaniments/Chutney: cucumber – lemon – tomato – aubergine – “Dakatine”
-Pickled chilies

Desserts: spicy ice cream: Ginger, cinnamon, geranium and seasonal fruits ice cream such as litchis, pineapple and mango.  

 The barbeques

• A giant rabbit stew, offered by the CPLR, served on Friday 4th January
• Chicken barbeque, offered by the Volay Pei cooperative, served on Sunday 6th January
• Pork barbeque, offered by the CPPR, served on Thursday 10th January
• Local beef barbeque, offered by the Sica Révia, served on Sunday 13th January   

An entertaining fair:

Discover the “p’tites canailles”
Make the most of the Miel Vert to allow your children discover or rediscover the animals’ farm, everyday: chicks, pigs, horses and rabbits...On top of this exhibition, a special programme has been devised for the little ones.   

Shows

Theatre, comedy, dance, magic and karaoke…At the “p’tit théatre,” a show follow one after the other, every morning from 10 30am and every afternoon from 02 00pm.  Great fun for the whole family.   

Street entertainment

During your visit at the Miel Vert, you may bump into many artists whom will stroll along the avenues to everyone’s delight: clowns, waders, tightrope walkers, dancers and brass bands…    

Storytelling and reading

The Media library of the Plaine des Cafres invites the children every morning at 09 30am for storytelling, theatre, reading and also offers a selection of books on livestock, animals and local products… 

Free amusement rides 

The purchase of an entrance ticket to Miel Vert (1€) consists of 5 free amusement ride tickets.  Please note that it should be used only from 10 00am to noon and from 02 00pm to 06 00pm in the “Espace Enfant” amusement rides.

Carnival at 05 00pm:  A carnival will be held to close this new edition of Miel Vert.  Since several months, around twenty associations have mobilized to organise this parade.  The theme of this year is based on the four elements: water, air, fire and earth.
