Reunion Island

In Focus

Bertrand Gonthier, a Réunionese entrepreneur in Montréal

After having worked a few years in Réunion Island, Bertrand left his island to try his luck elsewhere...  In passing through Paris to Québec.

The light of Islam

The Mosque of Saint-Denis was built in 1905, or 21 years prior the construction of the Great Mosque in Paris.

Chinese New Year 2008

Réunion Island has celebrated the Chinese New Year.  At Saint-Paul, many artists from China and Mauritius have brightened up the streets of the city centre to wish a traditional happy new year of the rat.

Chinese New Year

Every year, China celebrates a colourful and noisy New Year either in late January or early February.  An opportunity for the Chinese community of Réunion Island to party.

A return to the roots

Corner shops can be spotted in all areas of Reunion Island. Representative of the local culture, these “boutik” are always full and cater to the numerous needs of the locals. Being more than mere mini supermarkets, these shops are holding onto a tradition that no one wishes to cease.
