Petite-Ile, a large agricultural town, is regarded as the south
source of vegetables. In this commune, sugar cane, vetivers, onions, geraniums and garlic are cultivated. Its name comes from a rock that emerges in the sea, 50 metres from the shore. “Pays d’accueil du Sud-Est”, the area around Petit-Ile is favourable to ecotourism. The major asset of Petite-Ile is Grande Anse. This piece of land property, which used to be privately owned has been bought by the town. With a white sandy beach, coconut trees and an area dedicated to picnics, it is a quiet little spot for weekends.
