“Bassins” and ravines

Many ravines cross over Sainte-Marie. There are several shaded “bassins” with clear water: namely bassin Marie-Louise and bassin Z'Eclairs in the strangely called Ravine Sèche (dry ravine).

Access: go to Rivière-des-Pluies, then to Grande-Montée and towards l’Espérance.

The Vierge noire, protector of the oppressed

Every year, on the first of May people come from all over the island to honour her.

Kalou MariammenTemple

A Tamil temple consecrated to the Godess Mariammen. It can’t be visited but being the loveliest temple of the island, it is worth seeing even just its frontage.
