Saint-Paul is where the first French people landed and the birthplace of the colonisation of Réunion Island. This town was also the first capital of the island. The towncentre is popular for its market held every Friday morning. Tourists come in droves to enjoy the beaches of Saint-Gilles, which is part of Saint-Paul.
