BIENVENUE DANS LA COMMUNE DE : SAINT-JOSEPH

Saint-Joseph has a particular atmosphere. There is something very characterful about this village. Built on the slopes of the mountain, Saint-Joseph is the capital of the wild south. You will definitly enjoy Manapany and Langevin which are lovely and accessible places. Don’t miss the farms where turmeric and vetiver are grown.

Manapany
Also known as “Ti coin charmant”, Manapany is a small seaside resort which has been rehabilitated recently. This village has a natural pond with seawater. Manapany is also a surfing spot.

Spices and fragrant plants
Go and visit the “musée du curcuma” in Plaine-des-Grèges, a turmeric-growing area. The “safran péï” is gathered in July. Manapany-les-Hauts is also famous for its plantations of vetiver. There is the last distillery for vetiver of the island here. Don’t miss the “Jardin des Orchidées”.

Rivière Langevin valley
From the route nationale, you can drive, ride or walk along the Rivière Langevin for 15 km to the cascade du Grang Galet. A popular spot at week-ends and bank holidays, it seems like all the inhabitants of the south come here to picnic. You can have a swim in the river, go dancing at the open-air café or go trout fishing in Grand-Galet fish culture.

Labyrinthe des Sens in Grand-Coude
An original idea conceived by Johnny. Streching over on 3 hectares of tea plantations, lies a real maze. You can also take the opportunity to discover Grand-Coude, a lovely village 15 km above Saint-Joseph.

Langevin fishing port
Notre-Dame-des-Flots watches benevolently over the small fishing boats lined up on the quay.

Rivière des remparts
Hiking and mountain bike lovers will enjoy going up the Rivière des Remparts valley to the bras de Mahavel. From the small village of Roche-Plate, thrill-seekers will be delighted.

Grand-Coude and PLaine des Grègues, Village Créole
15 Réunion Island villages belonging to 12 communes hold the « Village Créole » label. This label is a sign of authenticity, the sense of welcome and the respect for traditions and heritage.
This label is not “static”: following a charter, all villages commit themselves to making regular progress regarding the different criteria.
